You would not drive your car for 15 years without ever changing the oil, would you?
Your furnace in the basement also requires routine maintenance. You should be changing the filter every 1-3 months for 1″ filters, and 3-6 months for 4″ filters.
You should also have the furnace checked out at least once a year to clean it up and check over it over. These clean-and-checks make sure the unit is working well and often a technician is able to catch a problem before it happens.
